What is QA?

Quality Assurance (QA) is the field of checking that software applications function properly. It mostly entails searching for bugs in software.

Software testers are an invaluable part of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). After computer programmers make code changes (feature improvements or bug fixes), software testers look for mistakes and check for problems users might have.

Alumni Testimonials

Kind words from some of the many satisfied students we have taught over the years.

When I started in QA close to two decades ago, I had little or no experience in QA. Scott took me under his wings and mentored me. He guided me through understanding different QA strategies and methodologies, learning how to write and execute test plans, how to use important tools like Jira and SQL. He even took it up a notch by introducing me to more advanced skills like UNIX and bash scripting. These skills have stood me in good stead as it set me on a successful career path that I am still on to this day.

Scott is a very patient teacher and he made the learning enjoyable. In fact, his mantra is, “QA is fun!” And with him, it really is always fun. I have always said it, and I will say it again now, “Scott gave me wings to fly.”

Tzirel Shaffren
Trained and working in QA since 2008

When I began my journey in QA and hi-tech some years ago, I had little to no background in quality assurance. It was through Scott’s teaching that I gained the skills and confidence to build a successful career in this field.

Scott’s teaching style is methodical, clear, and incredibly supportive. He doesn’t just teach technical skills—he teaches how to think critically and strategically about testing. From foundational QA strategies to more advanced tools like Jira, SQL, and UNIX, Scott provided me with a strong toolkit that I continue to rely on to this day. He has a unique ability to break down complex concepts into manageable steps, making even the most daunting topics feel achievable.

Scott’s mentorship has been instrumental in shaping my career in QA, and his teaching skills are truly exceptional.

Shimon Aharon
Trained and worked in QA from 1999 - 2009
Currently: Project Manager in high-tech

I am indebted to Scott Seltzer for providing me with the opportunity to become a successful senior QA Engineer. After arriving in Israel with no experience in QA, Scott showed me the basics of software testing. In the begining, I was looking for spelling mistakes and Scott taught me Unix commands and how to check server logs. Then Scott taught me API testing with Postman and SQL queries. We discussed how to approach different live examples and how to write test cases, and also documenting bugs in Jira. Scott’s method of teaching is to always challenge a person and build the person’s confidence. Scott has always made himself available for any questions that I had and till today always remained a friend.

About Scott Seltzer

I am passionate about Quality! I've got 25+ years of experience as a QA Manager and I've had ravishing success creating QA departments for startups, nearly all of which were acquired by international corporations (because of my superlative QA, of course). I have a degree in education and I love training people in software testing.

On a personal note, I moved to Israel in 1992 and I love challenges such as: memorizing pi to over 100 digits, juggling 9 balls and 5 torches (not at the same time 😉), and completing Ironman triathlons. I'm proud of raising my sweet children.
